From September 26th to 30th, Li Lingshen, Vice President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, led a delegation to visit and research Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Quebec City Hospital Laval University Joint Research Center, and Canadian company Tiandingfeng, in order to gain a deeper understanding of industry related scientific research and innovation trends, as well as the investment status of Chinese industrial textile enterprises in Canada.
In Boston, USA, the delegation visited the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the MIT Media Lab.
Harvard University believes that engineering and applied sciences have great potential, and officially established the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in 2007, dedicated to strengthening the connections between other professional departments of the school, providing students with opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary fields, and inspiring more innovative potential. The delegation visited its materials science laboratory and gained a deeper understanding of the potential application research of modified polymer materials in the field of soft robots.
The MIT Media Lab, founded in 1980, is an interdisciplinary laboratory dedicated to the integration of technology, media, science, art, and design, consisting of designers, researchers, and inventors. The delegation visited some of the laboratory's achievements, including 3D printed cilia, virtual reality enhanced gloves, artificial intelligence, modular driving devices, etc., and gained a deeper understanding of the laboratory's research and innovation model.
The laboratories of the two universities left a deep impression on the delegation, not only for the innovative achievements they showcased, but also for their open, integrated, and relaxed research atmosphere. For example, the vast majority of university laboratories or research institutions in the world require project funding that is consistent with their research direction. However, at the MIT Media Lab, there are no restrictions on research direction, which greatly expands the innovation dimension of researchers and often produces unexpected innovative results. Popular technologies such as Kindle e-ink technology, LEGO Mindstorms, Scratch programming language, holographic digital 3D printing, etc. all originated from this lab.
In Canada, the delegation visited and researched the Quebec City Hospital Laval University Joint Research Center and the Canadian company Tiandingfeng.
In Quebec, the delegation visited the Biomedical Materials Laboratory of the Department of Regenerative Medicine at the Quebec City Hospital Laval University Joint Research Center and had a discussion and exchange with the laboratory leader, Professor Zhang Ze's team. Professor Zhang Ze introduced the application research of medical textiles in vascular prostheses and human body patches, and had in-depth exchanges with the delegation on biodegradable materials, weaving technology, and other aspects. Both sides agreed that the development of biomedical textiles cannot be separated from the close cooperation between the textile and medical fields, as well as the extensive clinical research in hospitals. The university laboratory is located in Quebec City Hospital and has a long-term cooperation with Donghua University, which deeply confirms the above viewpoint.
In Montreal, the delegation conducted research on Canadian company Tiandingfeng and had discussions and exchanges with relevant company officials. Sun Xiangjie, the marketing manager of Tiandingfeng Company, and Xiang Feng, the chairman, introduced the background of the company's overseas investment and its investment situation in Canada. They also shared in detail the advantages and disadvantages of investing in North America and provided suggestions for Chinese enterprises to invest overseas.
Sun Xiangjie introduced that based on its rich experience in product export and overseas talent team construction, the company has chosen to invest in North America, which can better leverage its advanced manufacturing advantages, establish itself in the main gathering place of global waterproofing companies in North America, radiate to the European market, and form a virtuous complementarity with domestic factories; He also pointed out the investment risks in North America, and that companies need to establish in-depth cooperation with professional local legal, tax and other consulting agencies based on in-depth research and analysis of overseas markets, and build localized construction and management teams.
During the exchange and sharing, Xiang Feng summarized that as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oriental Yuhong, Tiandingfeng has actively expanded into overseas markets in recent years. Currently, it has invested in North America and the Middle East, and will gradually build and put into operation in the next two years, providing strong impetus for the company's global performance and market share growth.
Li Lingshen said in the forum that the textile industry is a pioneer of China's "the Belt and Road Initiative", from the initial products and production capacity to the global integration of brands and capital; From the initial 'passive' approach to going global, to now actively embracing the global market; The concept and connotation of "going global" have undergone profound changes with the development of global politics and economy. As a leading enterprise in the field of industrial textiles, Tiandingfeng Company's overseas investment practice will provide valuable experience for the global development of China's industrial textile industry.
